Requirements Traceability is very impertant in Product Testing. We?acknowledge the?testing activity to be complete only when the RTM is complete. The Tester is assured that proper testing is done only when the test cases trace back to all the requirements.

Defect prevented at the early stage of the lifecycle saves lot of money and effort to the company. There are different ways of preventing defects. Some examples are as follows:
a. Use previously logged defects and analyze the pattern incase its a existing application / system
b. Review and inspections of the analysis, design and coding artifacts to make sure they adhere to proper guidelines
c. Review of test cases written by testing team from development team and Business users / analysts to avoid any gap
d. Have testing from development team of the integrated application before delivering it to the testing team.

In such cases one has to go for Risk based testing. Testing team should ask or discuss with client about re-prioritizing therequirements again. Now depending on the priorities a percent of the whole test cases should be run in the 2 months period.

Coexistence testing involves the working of application, on different hardware & software configurations. It checks the performance of the application with different combinations of different types of resources.
Compatibility testing checks if the two systems or two different resources are able to exchange the information successfully when an application is implemented or installed. This testing is usually performed when an already existing program is replaced with a new application.Surendra
