There is a update Override option in the Target properties, you can write a update override query similar to SQL override in lookup's for updateing Targets. This option is enabled only at the mapping level i.e; in the designer you have to write your update override query in designer itself.

You should put in appropriate comments/documentation at the metadata extension for each transformation object / mapping / session etc..  Basically for each object.further, you can use metatdata reporter equivalent to generate appropriate document for the mapping/folder etc...

The sessionlog will give the details of the complete working of the session. With this you can find out where the session failed. In addition session log will also give an error number to provide the type of error that has occurred.Other option to find the error is to debug the session.

Yes, we can increase the line sequential buffer length in the session properties.

There is no hard limit actually, but when the block size and the DTM buffer size also should be increased to be able to process the records
