Basically all the measure can be summed up. These definations of additiive,semi-additive and non-additive measures is based upon the requirements. If you want to sum up a measure for some dimensions but not for others then it become your semi-additive..and while creating a cube you take care of this thing.

hi,

you can take a bank account as semiadditive since a current balance for the account can't be summed as time period; but if you want see current balance of a bank you can sum all accounts current balance.

There are basically three types of Facts :
1) Additive Facts
2) Non- Additive Facts
3) Semi-Additive facts

Additive facts are those facts which we can aggregate or we can add.For e.g 2+7=9.
Non-additive facts are those facts which we can't aggregate or add For example we can't 4%+8%.
Semi-additive facts are those facts which we can aggregate according to the context.

Hi Siraj,
Regarding the Non-additive facts example, we can add 4% & 8% and get 12% of whatever we are looking at. So How does percentage become non-additive?

Please give me a fact table where I cannot add the percentage. Especially if the percentage is calculated for that particular fact table. Are we saying that percentages stored in the fact table might not be the percentage w.r.t same denominator? But that would just mean we are not violating granularity unless the denominator is different for different dimensions but at the same granularity.
