The Compression ratio means the change in volumes ie. The volume of the cylinder at the Piston is at BDC (Bottom Dead Centre ) and the Volume when the piston is at TDC (Top Dead Centre)
Example, Let V1 be the volume at BDC and V2 be the volume at TDC , V2/V1.
Petrol engines have low compression ratios lie 1:8, and Diesel Engine have more like 1:16 or more
