None of these is correct (unless the question is misleading). Based on father being 3 times age of his son today and 2.5 times in 2.5 years, the correct answer is that the son is 7.5 years which is not presented as an option

Let father age is f and son age is s
According to the question, f=3*s and after 2.5 years f+2.5=2.5*(s+2.5)
=> f+2.5=2.5s+6.25
=> 3*s+2.5=2.5s+6.25, because f=3*s
=> 0.5s=3.75
=> s=7.5
so, current age of son will be 7.5 years

Lets take x as father

y as son

present age of father x=3y

after 2.5 years father x+2.5=(y+2.5)*2.5

so 3y+2.5=2.5y+2.5*2.5
then 0.5y=7.5
y=15 years

Let, at present sons age = x
so, fathers age = 3x

and after 2.5 years sons age will be = (x+2.5) yrs
so,fathers age will be = (3x+2.5) yrs

so, according to the problem,

3x+2.5=2.5(x+2.5)
or, x=3.75/0.5
or, x=7.5
so, now fathers age will be 22.5 yrs
