TMT: Thermo-Mechanicaly Treated Steel

  Was this answer useful?  Yes

TMT means Thermomechanical Treatment of steel.

It’s a process of simultaneous application of heat and a deformation process of metal, in order to change its shape and refine the microstructure. Hot rolling of metals in industrial level like processing of steel from carbon, mild steel to highly alloyed Stainless steel.

Main purpose of TMT is….

Higher strength.
Desired property can be achieved.
Lowers the cost.
Higher resistance.
Welding will be improved.
Better toughness.

There are two methods….

LTMT- Low temperature thermomechanical treatment
HTMT- High temperature thermomechanical treatments
