T codes are nothing but Transaction codes.

Transaction code is the shortest way to reach the screen.

To reach a screen we need to type Transaction code in the command field and then enter. Then you can reach the fisrt screen of  that business transaction.

They are same any where in the world and in any version.

There are two ways to reach the screen.

1. Menu Path

2. Transaction code

You should know either the Menu Path or Transaction code to reach the screen.

There are certain transactions for transporting required terms in a report eg. quatity, quality, amount recieved and so on unique for each bussiness so as these terms are present in SAP R3 database, they are transported to SAP BW Warehouse to develop certain kind of reports.

T-codes mean Transaction Code.
This is the easiest way to execute a Program.
Some of the attributes associated with T-code are :
1) Package
2) Program name (which is to be executed)
3) Selection screen (starting point)
4) Starting variant (default value to start with)
5) Authorization object (most important...used to restrict the access)

Little knowledge of standard t-codes would be enough but you should know abt custom t-code (z-tcode).
