The default tablespace is the tablepsace in which the user's objects are created. Generally while creating the user, the default tablespace is mentioned. If by any chance the default tablespace is not mentioned while creating the user, the default tablespace for that user will be system and all the objects created by him will be created in SYSTEM tablespace and frequent DDL and DML operations on those objects would cause the SYSTEM tablespace to defragment heavily causing performance issues.

Users need to have a default tablespace, where their objects will be created if they dont explicitly assign a different tablespace during object creation
