There is a 1 km long wire. It has been fixed around a wall of the building with the help of some poles between 2 telephone towers. It is noticed that if there is a increase of 1 2/3 m in width of 2 poles then there is a need of 1 pole less. How many poles were used?

So gap becomes 12/3 with 1 less pole ...

Let n be the no of poles ..

(1000/n-1)=12/3

ans:- 251 poles

SIMPLE.....

Step 1: Space between the two poles originally = 1000/(N-1) (If there are N poles there are N-1 Spaces)

Step 2: One pole is removed. So the no of poles is N-1 and no of spaces is N-2. It has been said that space increases by 1 2/3.

There fore we get 

1000/(N-1) + 1 2/3  =1000/(N-2)

Which gives N-1 = 25 (spaces)

So, total no of poles will be one more than no of spaces. No of poles = 26.
