If you write a pc at record level it will be executed where ever you used but if write pc in component that will be executed for the component only thats the reasons mostly we write pc at component level.

Record level people code Executes in any Component containing the record field.Component level people code Will only execute for that particular Component.

In the record field properties where you want the the dynamic search record -- change it to Table Edit and in the prompt table write %derived.

For the discussions already made, I would add one more event when a page is saved, i.e. workflow. So, Now series will beSaveEdit,SavePreChange, Workflow,SavePostChangeWorkflow: Only Peoplecode related to Workflow (e.g. Approval processes and Notification purposes) are written.
