Thats not correct. By this definition Update Strategy should be a passive transformation but it is not.So correct answer is that any transformation which can change 1. Number of rows 2. Row type i.e. DD_INSERT, DD_DELETE... 3. Transaction control... All these are active ones.

Using sorter (with distinct option checked) will not tell what all records were duplicate. There is even a better way of doing it without using aggregator and all. it just uses expression transformation.

No. Informatica does not extract data from application directly. It will extract only from databases and external sources.

Only start step2 task. For step 2 and step 3 both do "start workflow from this task".

Use target update override and write down your SQL update statement there. It will not require any keys. Before that use whatever to identify which row qualifies for an update and which not.

It is true - that it wont work without the keys - dynamic look up and update but if the combination of the columns used for look up always returns a unique value - the update shall still work, even if the keys are not defined.

Im trying to fill a primary key field of a target using a trigger on the table to insert a sequence number for each insertion of a new row.After running the session im finding that the key column is populated ,but,not in an order. the key field starts with some 75 goes till 200,the again 551 comes and goes till 10500 ,suddenly the next key field is filled with 21 and goes till 72.... is there any reason why this is happening in this reason.FYI : i truncated the table data ,then dropped the seq. and the trigger and created them freshly ,specifying the start value in seq. as "1"still the same problem :(

It depends what database you are using. If you are using Oracle or SQL server it should not be the case. But if your database is Teradata or Netezza then that will happen. Because Teradata and Netezza uses multiple parallel processing units.ThanksAshis
