Hi I have a few questions in AbInitio. It would be very useful, if some one answered.
1.How to bring souce files(Flat files) to Unix environment?
2.How to go to GDE from Unix after connected to Unix Host?
3. How to integrate o/p folder / file to target database (SQL Server)?
4.Is staging area required in AbInitio? If yes, when is that?

Information required regarding certifications in ETL
Hi All,
I need few suggestion from ETL regarding certification programs.
I have 2.5 years of exp. as Abinitio Developer(ETL). I am on the bench and waiting for a project. Meanwhile I want to gain more knowledge on ETL and I am planning to do certification program. but, I have lot of confusion and doubts regarding the certification programs in ETL area.

Hello Raj,
Ab-Initio Certifications are only available in United States which can cost around $3-4k. Residents outside states dont have this privilege. Presuming that you are in India, I would recommend you to go-ahead with Teradata SQL and Oracle SQL Certifications. -

One table can only have one clustered Index (When we create primary key on table,oracle automatically creates Clustered index on that column) but It can have many non clustered index, approximately 250

Clustered Index creates physical order on the table based on the defination given. You can only have one clustered index.

Why might the optimizer use a table scan when an index is available?

If the stats are not collected on the table the index info is not available in the data dictionary, ,In such case the optimizer would pick up the full table scan instead of using the indexes. In order to always use the indexes we can give the hint to oracle to always use the index.

What data modelling do you follow while loading of data to tables? Also the DB you are inserting the data has Star schema or Snow flake schema?

It depends on schema, since the star/snow flake schema has one fact table attached to multiple dimensions
so, I would go with 3rd normalized form. -

There are a lot of options in Ab Initio. To get the report at Component level,Graph level ( Log port, AI_SUMMARY files). Ab Initio can even generate reports at the transformation level how many times ...

Turn on the debugging mode and insert the breakpoints for each transformation and see the results i.e. how are they evaluating in detail between variables,statements and business rules.

You have to use include in thXFR. We define all the common functions like strip blanks,format date etc., in a common xfr and can be used environment wide.

Join with old master and new master file. you will get matched record those are not going to update. unused records are new records ,which are loaded into table.
