It depends on project to project and which methodology you follow. But as a PM if you have following KPI i think you can assess the health of the project provided data is captured correctly.

1. Budget ( Budgeted Vs Actual, ETC, Est At Completion) -- Better you follow the S-curve
2. Schedule variance
3. Risk
4. Issues
