BA - Business Analyst studies the requirement of the client and make documents like - BSD(Business Specification Document), FSD(Functional Specification Documents). He also discusses the technical feasibility of the requirements with developer.

PM - Project manager - The project manager plays a very significant role in the initial planning, finalizing project requirements, and resource allocation. A project manager has to assess what the client demands, what all resources he has, what has to be added to the resources, and how the project work is to be carried out.

Project Manager: The PMO (The Project Management) office assigns the Project Manager in the initial phase of the product development. The PM does all the Enterprise analysis which include the Feasibility study, Cost-Budget analysis, risk assessment and defines the scope of the project. He/she does the planning in this phase. He then assigns a Business Analyst to the project.

Business Analyst: The BA acts as a liaison among the business Stakeholders. He/she acts as a point of contact between the stakeholders and the technical team. The role of a BA is to gather the requirements from the business users and analyze and document the requirements and submit it to the next phase i.e. the design phase.

When the project originates within the business unit, the Business Analyst writes the Business Case which funds the project. The Project Manager is brought in later to lead the implementation of the approved business case. Some organizations engage a Project Manager earlier but this is very wasteful as it has Project Managers working on unfunded ideas that may never move forward. It is the responsibility of the Business Analyst that technology be used to benefit the business. The Project Manager is more concerned with meeting the project goals on time and within budget. The Business Analyst is more concerend with function.
