Why SC test is performed on LV side?

First up all what is mean by SC????

It is Short Circuit of a network, when it happens the equation of a network are as follows:

V= infinite and I = 0

And on HV side voltage is high and current is low according to that we dont have equipment of that rage to measure the short circuit voltage and it is harmful to took a SC test on HV side.

Therefore it is better to look at the SC test on LV side of a transformer.

It is not right to say that SC test is always performed on Transformer LV side only. In SC test, one side is shorted and a low voltage is applied on the other side until full current flows through the short circuited side of transformer. Now, Voltage applied to circulate the rated current in the short circuited transformer is same as the %Z of the transformer which may be in the range 2.5% to 6%. It is easy to find low current sources than High current sources (it is economical, small size and easily available). So it is easy to perform Short circuit test by shorting the Low Voltage side and applying voltage on high voltage side

To prevent losses, generally short circuit is done in the lv side

In the Transformers we usually do short circuit test on Low voltage side because during SC test we need to calculate copper losses, load current etc., for that purpose we require some meters of low range, if the test is done on high volt side the range of the meters must be high.Thus the range of meters can be minimized by doing SC test on LV side and hence the cost.

Load are in LV side and also max SC faults occurred in Load side. If SC Faults occurs protect load and Net work system

We generally performs Short circuit test keeping initial voltage at lower value and then gradually increases it up to the level to get a full load current (or Max) through testing device or circuit. But if we apply greater input voltage then very high current will starts to flow which can lead to overheating of copper wires and can damage insulations.
