The series capacitor is conected to compensate for the line inductance and thus decrease the line reactance so that more power can be tranferred through the line (EV/X sin(delta)) and thus the system stability can be increased.

I think, by connecting capacitor at the end of a load line, there is improvement in power factor

basically u se............

when we receive power from a sub station then in the trans mission line there are losses dur to such losses the power factor is reduced and in places where there is large consumption of electricity it becomes a necessity to raise the power factor otherwise the reactive power i.e. the loss power will increse and cost 'll go pretty high.......................dur to ssuch concequences capacitor banks are used to improve the power factor

Hello......
                The question is about connecting Capacitors in SERIES. Series connection is done for improving STABILITY of the network and for transferring more power (by reducing the resultant rectance) i.e to improve the power transfer capability, but not for improving powerfactor. power factor will be improved by connecting capacitors in parallel to the load.
