How many test cases a testing engineer prepares and executes per day?

Hi Shyam,

The answer to this question cannot be told in specific numbers as to how much test cases can be prepared and excuted by a tester in a day.

It totally depends upon the type of application you have to test, might be simple, medium or complex. It also depends how many test sceanrios or test cases you tend to think of regarding the etsting of that application, I mean to say, both positive test cases and negative test cases. It also depends as to how many modules are there in your application for testing and how simple or complex the functionalities are there in each module.

Hencfe this question depends upon a number of factors to deal with it first. Suppose you prepare 50 tst cases for a particular module, then you have to execute all the test cases in a defines period as mentioned in the project plan. Then you define your testing process as to how many cycles you need for testing the application completely.

Hope this helps.

Nikhar

As Nikhar said, it depends on how complex the testcases are.According to the complexity, the company sets the standards for the number of testcase to be executed.

on an average a tester with 1 yr experience can write 10-15 test cases however complex the object(s) are in the application. for a person with 2yrexperience can write 15-20 test cases.

Anyway if asked in an interview the answer could be diff. Pls answer this for a person of 1 yr and 2yrs exp.

HI Ravi,

What I feel is that your answer of 10 - 15 test cases written by a 1 year experience guy and number of test cases increasing with the experience is a bit misleading since the number of test cases does not epend upon the number of years you have stayed in a particular project or may be in a company.

However if asked in the interview, the answer cannot in stated in definate terms as to how can test cases you can be written. It totally depends upon the application. If the application is simple enough, then may 20 test cases are sufficient to cover all the test scenarios. It's important to cover all the scenarios rather than making 100 test cases and still all the scenrios are not covered. You can write 20 test cases for a simple application and 20 test cases even for a complex application but the catch here is that all the test scenrios should get covered.

Thanks,

Nikhar
