Let he takes t1 hrs to reach top & t2 to come down the hill.so t1 + t2 = 6 hrsv1 = 4 m/hv2 = 6 m/has distance is D in both cases.v2/v1 = t2/t1v2+v1/v2-v1 = t2+t1/t2-t1i.e. 10/2 = 6/t2-t1i.e. t2-t1 = 6/5so u have t2 + t1 & t2- t1so t1 = 18/5 & t2 = 12/5Hence D = v1*t1 = 72/5 miles

total time taken is 6 hr.

Speed 4 miles/hr & 6 miles/hr

so avg speed is (2*4*6)/(4+6)=4.8

now speed=dist/time so dist=speed * time

dist= 4.8 *6=28.8

dist on one side=28.8/2=14.4 miles

Let the height of the hill be d
then time taken to climb the hill = d/4 miles per hour
time taken to come down the hill=d/6 miles per hour
Total time=6hrs
hence d/4+d/6=6
d=48
