Basic role of a test engineer is excuting testcases with the intent of finding bugs in the application under test(AUT),find them as early as possible and make sure they get fixed.

if a test engineer finds any defect in the AUT.he reports it to test director database.His role not ends at this stage.He has to convince approproate developer and make sure it get fixed.He should be in touch with the defect until it will be tracked

The basic role of a test engineer is to improve the value of a product or service that is important to a company and its customers.  This is accomplished by identifying and reporting defects and by helping to understand the degree to which the product or service meets its intended requirements.
