Once decided to go for automation how can we decide on which tool to use : WR, QTP and Rational. In which circumstances you prefer WR and in which circumstances you prefer QTP and in which circumstances you prefer Rational tool.

Hi,
To do Functional testing(to check the functionality of the application) we use winrunner tool.
To check performance of the application we use loadrunner tool.
QTP is the combination of both winrunner loadrunner ,so to check both the function and performance of application we use QTP tool.

Ima pretty sure QTP is also a functional tool. It is a higher version of winrunner. Incase you need tyo do performance testing you nneed to use load runner

U are correct.As u said for performance we use loadrunner.QTP also for funtional testing like winrunner.But qtp has some advanced features over winrunner.In qtp we can test web-based applications also.
