here is anothe puzzle from infy.. if there are a hundred puzzle pieces then what is the minimum number of ways in which we can complete the puzzle by joining the clusters of puzzle pieces (a cluster can have a single piece as well) ans: maybe 99

Let it be 'x' mins to 6 o' clock. Total no of mins between 3 to 6 = 180 mins. so we can also translate the words into this equation {(180-x)-50}/4 = x x = 26 mins.

Hi,When you say ((180-x)-50) = 4x, is the 'x' in 4x signifying the no of mins past 3 'oclock ?If yes, then there is a contradiction in the assumption you are making that 'x' is the no of mins to 6 o clock. If No, then there is contradiction with the Question. Please clarify!Thank you.

let 'x' be the number of minutes to 6 O'CLOCK.then according to the given condition,
6-x=3+4x+50
solving for x we get x=26 minutes

total time from 3-6 is 180 mins.50 mins ago means 180-50=130minsand this time =x mins to 6+4x mins past 3(say current time is x mins to 6)so 4x+x=130x=26 minsso time is(6-26) or (3+26*4+50)=5:34

Check this out.. This might be little explanatory..
1. Let the time past 3 be x min.
2. 4 times how many minutes is it to 6'o clock will be 4x.
3. Time between 3 and 6 is 180 min.
4. This 180 min includes x, 4x and 50.
5. So x+4X+50 = 180.
6. This gives x = 26 min.
7. Current time is 3:26 + 50 min = 4:16.
(Cross Check with the Question now.. Differenc between current time and 6 is 104 min, which is 4 times as many minutes past 3'o clock)
2. 4 times time past 3 will be 4x(which is the time to reach 6 from now).

It?s very simple if you go to the level of time metrics and scaling it from 00:00.One hour=60 minutesSo at 6'o clock it will be = 360 minutes from 0000And at 3'o clock it will be = 180 minutes from 0000Lets take the unidentified value = xSo as per the statement:(360 -x) - 50 = 180 + 4x(Note that every value is in minutes - 6'o clock = 360 and 3'o clock = 180)Solving the equation - 360 - x - 50 = 180 + 4x5x = 360 - 50 -1805x = 130x = 26 minutesThis implies its 26 minutes to 6 ie 5:34 and the time 50 minutes back stood at 4:44Or4 * 60 +44 = 284 minutes (4:44)This is equal to 180 + 4 * 26 = 284 minutes (substituting the value of x in 180 + 4x)
I hope this will explain how to solve it We are @ here 3 o'clock---------------------------|---------------------------------------|----------| 6 o'clock <----------4X-----------><----------------50min-------------><----X---> <--------------------------------180min----------------------------------->
We need to find X minutes to 6'o clock. 180 min consists of x+50+4x So x+50+4x = 180 5x = 130 x = 26 minutes
Lets track the position of the mins hand in the clock.. Lets say it is at x mins RIGHT NOW 50 mins earlier at say y mins.. y = 4x // given
y-x=10 // it is always the case wen 50 mins ago mins hand was at a greater number.. eg.. RIGHT NOW= 4:55.. 50 mins earlier.. 4:05(earlier number in the same hour will always be smaller!).. so we can safely assume its 4:x o clk RIGHT NOW
Therefore y-x = 10 (say its 4:10 now.. 50 mins ago.. it was 3:40 .. try more examples) Solve both equations to find.. y=13.3 mins… RIGHT NOW the time is = 4:13 pm.. So mins to 6 o clock can be found out..
