The key element of test case is expected value.Based on expected value only actual value is compared and the result of the tets case is assessed whether "pass" or "fail"

the key element of the testcase is testdata and expected result and both are highly important for a testcase, with this we can figure out the actual result.

don''t u think objective is most imp part.

I respectfully disagree with anyone who states that expected results is the most important aspect of a test case. In my opinon the test steps are much more important. Why? Because testers will not know what to test and how to test if only the expected results are provided. However more often than not testers can accurately deduce expected results when running their test cases. If they can't, then they can describe their results in a word processing application and submit it to persons with the expertise to validate the results. Bottom line: If you don't have test steps, then you simply can't execute the test case. But you CAN execute a test case without expected results.
