profile options are used to change the beheviour of oracle applications forms,reports and programs at run time.
there are four types of profile options in oracle--
1.site level
2.application level.
3.responsibility
4.user level.
it is used to give the priviledges of access at different level.site level is accessed by everyone.
responsibility level is accessed by the person with valid responsibility e.g gl super user,application developer. etc
application level e.g oracle receivables,oracle payables etc.
user level (for a particular user some forms are visible)

2) A set of options that control access to certain features throughout Oracle Applications and determines how data is processed.
Generally Profile options can be set at the a) Site Level b) Application Level c) Responsibility Level d) User Level.
User Level is the highest and Site Level is the Lowest level among all these.
