Object Repository is like GUIMAP in winrunner. It learn the description of Objects logical name and the physical description . It contains two files, per Action and Shared.. 
File extension for per action is (.mtr) and the shared is (.tsr). Per action for each test , it creates a file and shared creates one file for the entite application ...

1.Shared -- Extension .tsr
2.Per Action -- Extension .mtr

There is no file extension of the code in QTP but if we are using code in terms of libraries, that file(library file) extension should be .vbs which needs to be add in Test-->Settings--->Resources.

.vbs is the extension for the QTP library files since they are vb script files. QTP scripts as such will not have any extensions.

Object repositories have two types of extension:

.mtr - for per test Object Repository

.tsr - for Shared OR

The object repository has an extension of .tsr where as the QTP automation script has no extension. However, an external file can be used as a resource file and this file should have .VBS extension. This file should purely be Visual Basic Scripting file.

      TSR --------> Test Script Repository: This is file  contains the configared information of the GUI Objects (Web button ,WebTable,Link,WebbuttionEtc) in a shared repository mode of QTP. When ever you running the QTP Scripts Qtp sees this file to identify the objects at run time to  do the operation.

MTS ----------> Mercury Test Script : this is a file extension of all the code which you have been written in the QTP. when you save a QTP Script in side that you find one .MTS file That cantains the same code what you have written in the QTP

code file extention .mts(module test script) why because in some companies they prepare the code with out recording, code means we can write any where in the script as per our testing  somebody says the extention of code file is .vbs but think first
