This is Sahasra, I am trying for a job as a Mainframe developer. I am attending the interview as a 3+ candidate. The real time questions like:

SOC4 abend may be due to the following reasons.
1.Missing SELECT statement ( During Compile time)
2.Bad Subscript/Index
3.Read/Write attempt to unopened file
4.Move data to/from unopened file
5.Missing parameters in called subprogram
SOC7 abend may be due to the following reasond
1.Numeric Operation on Non-numeric data
2.Coding past the maximum allowed subscript.
3.Un-initialize working storage.
Please let me know if there more reasons for the above mentioned abends.

Soc4-Protection exception, usually caused by an invalid index and subscript to an array
soc7-Caused due to bad data, in case of numeric data we are moving non-numeric,in case of numeric comparison we are finding spacechaitanyanavakoti19

SOC4 means subscript being out of range. This is because of compiler option.Default is nossrange we have to change it for ssrange....SOC7 means uninaialized numeric field. For SOC7 if we are doing numeric opretion which field is defined as non-numeric.

JCL Copylib
Suppose If You have mentioned the copylib in JCL program but the copy book is not expanded in the program what is the possible error you get?

The real problem is why the copylib/include is not being picked up.
If your compile can't find the macro, you'll get one error having to do with not finding the macro, and a 'variable not defined' for every reference to the variables defined in the macro.kckinney

DB2 Column Size
If a size of column has been changed in table (Suppose it was of 5 characters and later changed to 4 characters) and forgot to change the DCLGEN in COBOL program, will the program abend abnormally..If yes then what error will occur? If the program will not abend then what will happen?

Given in program 'APPLE' the value stored in database will be 'APPL'.
This is what I assume ---> As long as DCLGEN is a generated, but program not yet compiled, the old load and DBRM's bind remains the same and the only thing would be trancation in data at runtime.Srinivas17738

Static Call
A call to the subprogram at the time to compilation.Static call uses more CPU time, memory required is large.Improves performanceEvertime a change is made in the subprogram, all the impacted programs should be re-link-edited.Caller and called are one load module.A static call is specified withe a CALL LITERAL, and the program is compiled with COBOL NODYNAM option.Dynamjc CallA call to the subprogram at the time of exectution (run time) is called Dynamic call.Dynamic call uses less CPU time, memory required can be less.Degrades performance.Seperate load modules and therefore sharable by multiple callers.Only one copy.Caller and called programs are link edited as seperate load modules.A dynamic call is specified using a CALL 'VARIABLE' regradless of the cobol dynam or nodynam option.nasser_tice

In a static call, the call is done using a literal. Compiler option is NODYNAMIn a dynamic call, the call is done using variable. Compiler option is DYNAM
