The simple answer to the question can be amount of complexity included in using struts.The strut framework is useful in case of applications where enough modularity,flexibilty and security is required .Using strut framework for small application will be cumbersome

In Struts architecture Action class contain execute() method, within execute() method you can access database through jdbc or EJB. You can call the reference of entity bean class by jndi call and easily fetch data from database.

Hi,   it would be a better way to choose the eclipse IDE and add an ant build file which will do all compilation. It also helps to create a war, jar, ear file for future deployment.

LookupDispatchAction is like DispatchAction but LookupDispatchAction uses the value of the request parameter to perform a reverse lookup (using protected Map getKeyMethodMap() ) from the resource bundle using the parameter value and match it to a method in the class.

Action servlets in Struts do specifically the following three actions: 1. Invokes  Do Post()/Get Post() 2. Selects proper sub application 3. Invokes process() on Request Processor. There will be one action servlet per each application module.General servlets can contain any processing logic.
