Hi,
I have a COBOL file and contains 500 records of sample data.It contains 200 columns.How can I split that file in Informatica?Like 1st file 1-80 columns and 2nd file 81-200 columns.Then I want load that data using Informatica.
The Target are Oracle tables.
1-80 columns: 1st target
81-200 columns:2nd target
How can I split that single COBOL file data into two data files...

Hi Flat files have some advantages which normal table does not have. First one is explained by first post. Secondly, Flat file can work with case sensitivity issue of data easily., where normal table has errors.Kapil Goyal

Loading data from flatfiles to database is faster. You are receiving a data from a remote location. At remote location the required data can be converted into flatfile and same you can use at target location for loading. This minimizes the requirement of bandwidth, faster transmission.

Yes we can use the lookup transformation instead of joiner but we can take the homogeous sources only. If u r taking joiner we can join the heterogeneous sources.

If the no. of records are in hundreds, one doesn't see much difference whether a static cache is used or dynamic cache.  If there are thousands of records dynamic cache kills time because it commits the database for each insert or update it makes.

Specific situation is not there  to use the dynamic lookup if u r using the dynamic it will increase the performance and also it will minimize the  transformation like sequence generator.

Yes. It is possible having different Sources to load into the same target in a single session. But this again has a constraint on your requirement.

Now I implement it through this way:create two source qualifier both for the same source,then config the target load plan to load into the target by order.but before I load into the target,I need to look-up some Dim ID,in this way,I must lookup twice.I think its not a good way.It's there another better?

Use session option truncate table.if you use this option whenever you start the session it will delete the target table records and then load the new records.

well...u can use the option Truncate target in session(target properties)or use a truncate statement in pre-sql statement.either of the two should work fine..

Yes u can load into different targets with different schema.First check source columns which matching to target table column and then load.
