Officially in any project Testing Ends when we have met all the criteria defined in the EXIT Criteria of the TEST PLAN. Since TEST PLAN is the base documents which includes both the Entry as Well as Exit Criteria predefined and Base-lined.

When to end testing is determined by Exit Criteria that u define in the Test Plan document for that Phase of testing. In the exit criteria section of the Test Plan document will be defined a 'Bug density' (defect density).

Bug Density = Number of Test cases Failed (for that Phase of testing)/Total number of Test cases(for that phase of testing)
After all test cases are executed, bug density is calculated and if it is found to be less than or equal to the bug density defined in the Test Plan, then we can exit from that phase of testing.

By phases of testing i mean Integration Testing, System Testing, Regression Testing and so on..

When we satisfies all the requirement of the customer and when business flow is working fine then we stop testing even though product might ve some bug but those bugs are not going to effect the business flow of the product.But in LIFE CRITICAL APPLICATION usually testing will be ended only after fixing all the bugs..as a tester we don't want to take any RISKS because of bug.

As A tester one can not say that testing ends here as the requirements of customers are changing continuously but we can say that testing ends when all the requirements are full fill and bugs are resolved .

when the given application for testing is stable or bug free then the test engineer has to stop testing the application

I will stop the testing in the following scenarios,

1. whenever all the features are working fine according to the requirement(System Testing).
2. Whenever the deadline reaches.
3. when there is no bugs in application.

Assuming that there are no time or cost factors which end testing prior to completion testing stops when met all of your exit criteria are met.

We can end testing after confirming the stakeholder regarding bug priority. If bug priority is low then ask stakeholder, if he need that fix in next version, if he is ready then you can end that testing process.

After fixing the bugs and defects that may or are already affecting the vital functionality of application and ensuring that we are left with low priority low severity bugs and having settled with stakeholders to fix it afterward, we can perform end testing...but in real testing can never be ended, it can only be delayed or prioritized.

We can also end test if the Project dead line or budget is reached but in this case we must make sure that there are no major issues in the project and usability wise it is not causing any problem to the client

Testing can be stopped when the test plan is success fully executed. if in any case if testing has to end before the planned date then we need to consider the following,

First we need to prioritize the testing, includes critical areas to business to be tested thoroughly
All priority & issues are closed
Major functionality should work with no errors
End to End scenarios should be tested.

Some times testing can be ended with known defect which can be fixed in next phase of testing.

It depended on risk of application or software. If application is all bug free and has met with specific requirements than tester can stop testing.

Its depend on many conditions like all requirements are covered, all test plans executed and if the client satisfies with all requirement then we can end testing.
