The technique of identifying objects on the basis of their properties collection or by giving description in the form of string arguments is known as Descriptive Programming. It is mainly used in the following scenarios:

when an object is not present in the object repository or is difficult to identify,
when the application objects are generated dynamically,
when there is a need to reduce the size of object repository,
when specific actions needs to be performed on similar objects identified on the basis of its properties,
when using functions in actions etc.,

Description programming generally requires less maintenance time however, it takes comparatively more time to develop.
