High availability basically provide fail over to cluster member. In websphere world core group is a set of process that provides High Availability to cluster member.whenever we will create an application server we need to put them in core group.Cluster member can failover to other server only if it will be in same coregroup.so that other member can finish the job.

it is about the application availability for the users who are using it. We can provide the high availability by installing the application in different cluster members. In case one of the Application Servers fails other Application server which is in the cluster group will server the request so then the customer request can served quickly.
