Design mix in India are prepared by IS code method. all the properties of materials determined first, like density, setting times etc. then according to code quantities of water, cement, aggregates are calculated,then cubes are prepared and tested if characteristic strength is as required then mix is proper.

Design Mix of concrete is an important process to determine the?quantity of constituents of the concrete such as cement, aggregate, sand, water as per the grade of the concrete in order to achieve the conglomerate compound. Even the?phrase?itself advised that it is a design of a mix.??

In design mix, we should conduct all the tests of materials like specific gravity,bulk density, silt content,etc.,and then have to prepare cubes of size 150 x 150 x 150 mm. compressive strength will be calculated for 7 days & 28 days. from this we can know the strength.
