Cable selection is based on the load current to enable the core of the cable to conduct that much current & also the selction / size of the conductor / material of the conductor (Cu/ Al ) depent on laod current.

Cable selection depends upon following factors
1) Current : a) actual current
b) design current

Design current is more than the actual current it will carry.
Cables are always designed for a larger current considering the
1) Environment conditions viz, temp., soil in case of UG cables, no. of cables running parallel to the cable in consideration (grouping factor),

2) Kind of fitting,
3) Voltage drop per meter,
4) Conductor material.

It is combination of these factors which decides the cable selection in addition to cost.

Voltage is directly proportional length, current is proportional to area of cross section of the wire.

Cable selection not only depends on the load current but also depends on Temperature, Length (Distance between LT Switchgear MCC/PMCC to Motor). If load is increase then current will also increase if we select less size cable then it will cause overheating which will damage the insulation of cable.......
