What is Light Weight and Heavy Weight in Testing

Heavyweight methodologies try to plan out a large part of a project in great detail over a long span of time.
Test Project managers tend to want to predict every conceivable project milestone because they want to see every technical detail. This leads managers to demand all sorts of specifications, plans, reports, checkpoints, and schedules. But this works well only until things start changing; therefore, I believe project managers who use heavyweight methodologies will resist change

hi as it is describe by vandana about heavy weight it's true, generaly these type of pjects have high risk project like aeroplane traffic cantrol software or any real time system software as concerned to light weight where we have hurry to produce product or we assumes that product donn't have high risk adhoc testing is used many times in these type of projects

Lightweight test projects are those that are small and of little complexity.  For these reasons they are easily manageable.

Heavyweight test projects are those that are large and of great complexity.  For these reasons they are not easily manageable.
