Usually if a large amount of data entry/updation/deletion is to be done, the index is dropped and re-created after the data entry/updation/deletion is finished, Why?

It's really bad habit. you never gonna get anything from this. Reason is you are doing this to avoide fragmentation.. for this you can use LMT. and depends on index also if b*tree there are 95% always balanced.. yes for bitmap after certain load its necessary so for bitmap you can disable this index while load and after enable and rebuild..it's faster rather then dropping and recreating..while if you wish to build for b*tree online option is available so your user are not affected.
