Man is also a UNIX command like ls or cat.I am also updating the UNIX a few examples for the man command.
The POSIX specification requires man to support only one option (-k) and most of the UNIX systems also offers the apropos command that emulates man -k.When used with this option it prints the one line description of the command that emulates man-k.When used with this option,man searches summary database and prints a one liner description of the command.

Its like a manual which informs how to use various commands available in *nix systems.
Extra information

You can create a man command for your own scripts also. It requires a particular format for inside the file. It needs to be placed in particular directory to be readable by man command
