Ab is a line segment and p is any point in it, other than its centre. Using ruler only find a point q on ab extended such that ap / pb = aq / qb.

the order of the points with distances is a 3 p 1 b 2 q. Now ap/pb=3/1, aq/qb=6/2. So ap/pb=aq/qb.

As the q shud be have aq/qb=ap/pbSo, distance of p and q from a shud be same.Thus we can conclude that either p and q coincides, or pb=aq i.e. distance from p to b is equal to that of q from a.
