yes we can do it manually also, like taking no. of people making them to sit, by giving whisil they start running. it is very costly so we go for automation

It is possible , but we cannot have hundreds of physical users making the request for the same page at the same time or with a delay.
so we need to simulate the real time users. simulation is done with the help of a tool.

It is always better to use a tool

Again a confusion? Do any one think that Manual performance testing has been performed by any company , any time no matter in past also, if he/she is sure, then only reply.

It is possible but not feasible in any organization to Load test or Stress test an application Esp a web application.
It basically needs user in huge number.So we do it Using tool which does it very effectively and efficiently

Performance testing can be done with out any tool. Like 1) If a product is developed for Windows OS with minimum 1GB RAM. We can test that application below 1 GB RAM. 2) By opening too many applications and test how the required application is performing.

Manual performance test is possible but highly not recommended becoz for web applications we need to test the application under heavy load eg: e-commerce sites or bankings sites etc..And companies will go for automation tools for such projects
