It's a random testing It maens testing a application without proper test plan.It's carried out at the end of the project when all the test cases are executed.To check the application randomly.

or it's carried out in CMM 1 level company where test are executed without planning

Hi

Ad-hoc testing is method of black of testing. In this  type of  testing where the  testing  is  done  without  any  specific  procedure .This  type of testing followed in certain  types  of  company and this  type of  testing  will done  when the deliver  time of the product is very  much less or  insufficient  time

Adhoc testing :  Without preparing and executing test cases, and with some

knowledge of application, Adhoc testing is done.  But here test engineer have

BRS docs.

Actually it's done when target is reached , one can test if any functionality is

missing while testing ( done by outer tester, from another proj)

I agree with Kavita's answer. But i feel we can not link with CMM level. It can be performed in any project. Usually do this type of testing when tester has less time and tests high priority functionalities in this type of testing.

Ad-Hoc testing is a part of Rapid application testing.When a tester have very much time for testing,we use ad hoc testing. In Ad-hoc testing the new test cases depends on result of the previous test case.It is black box testing.

Adhoc testing comes in different manner.

   1)Some times Tester will do this type of testing,When they don't have sufficient time to test the application.

   2)Tester will do it after completion of the all the test cases executed and when they are going to realese the build.

  3)The end user will do this type of test to know whether the application is working or not.

Testing without a formal test plan or outside of a test plan. With some projects this type of testing is carried out as an adjunct to formal testing. If carried out by a skilled tester, it can often find problems that are not caught in regular testing. Sometimes, if testing occurs very late in the development cycle, this will be the only kind of testing that can be performed. Sometimes ad hoc testing is referred to as exploratory testing

Ad-Hoc testing is a type of exploratory testing.if you have a good knowledge over a particular application, then ad-hoc testing is an effective testing technique. there is no relationship between any standards like CMM

Without any proper test plan,test cases are executed and it should be done in end of testing.

Also known as random testing means test the main functionality of the application.

This is the first type of testing we perform when the application or built is updated in the testing environment. Testing an application in order to check whether the application is ready for the futher testing or not.This testing will be done under uncontrolled conditions. Adhoc testing is also called as Sanity testing or Built verification testing.

In Adhoc testing is randomly testing, in this tester will decide expected result directly from requirements.
Adhoc testing is doing without testcases.
Difference between Adhoc testing is doing with experience
and exploratory testing is doing without knowledge.
