HTTPS: Hyper Text Transfer Protocol overl SSL. HTTPS is not a seperate protocol, it refers to the combination of a normal HTTP interaction over an encrypted Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) or Transport Layer Security (TLS) transport mechanism. The url for HTTP will be http:// where as for HTTPS, it will be https://.https:// => indicates that HTTP is to be used, with a different default port (443) and an additional encryption/authentication layer between HTTP and TCP. (unsecure HTTP port is 80).
