In single networking which addressing is used to send data ? logical or physical addressing?

Well it depends single networking as to how one lokks at the concept.If its two computers or system in consideration then the MAC address ie. the physical address should be sufficient to identify the communication endpoints. Still in this case also You need the presence of the logical address i.e. the IP address to actually prove that communication is actually taking place. If the single networking is in question in regards to the LAN (i.e. the layer 2) where only the physiacl address exists then there is no second thoughts on that. But to prove it that communication can still happen through the physical address u need to have a tool like ethereal or tcpdump inbult with unix utility.Guys correct me if I am wrong somewhere .that would add to my knowledge too.byePuneet Keswani

Well , when we are working in single network , then Switch/HUB/Router or network device use physical address not logical address

logical address which is used is 127.0.0.1. This is a loop back address. If you send some data to this address then it comes back to you.
