the ado.net is based on xml, xml is used for data transfer, XML provide Great scalability to ado.net normally in other languages data transfer is done in binary formet which give a limited scope to a application bcz it is not easy to send data througd firewalls in binary format, in case of ado.net data send in xml format which is very easy to send data across firewalls.
