Prompts act as questions that help users to customize the information in a report to suit their own needs.

I don't know of any types of prompts in ReportNet.

Using prompts is faster and easier than repeatedly changing the filter.

Cognos Report Studio provides several ways to create prompts. You can
? use the Build Prompt Page tool
? build your own prompt and prompt page
? create a parameter to produce a prompt
? create a Prompt directly in a report page

Prompts are useful for giving dynamic values.this gives user more flexibility.

that is values at the run time.

as soon as a prompt is created ?PromptName? will be created.

there are lot of prompts like:

value prompt

date prompt

date and time prompt

generated prompt

select&search prompt.

even though prompt can be used in report as well as in prompt page.

its better to place yours in the later.

will be interesting once u start exploring the properties like static choices, default selections and others.

A prompt is can be called as a Dynamic filter. Prompt is an end user object which allows the user in selecting the values to restrict the data returned from the DataBase.  A prompt can be developed in 2 ways.

1.
Manually i.e., Syntax: ?Parameter name?
2. From Tools menu: Build prompt page

Types of Prompts are:

Date prompt,
Time prompt,
Date and Time prompt,
Value prompt,
Generated prompt,
Text prompt,
Interval prompt,
Select and Search prompt
