Im not an economist so... I'll tackle the next part of the question,


the role of metrics within the process is to inform all interested parties or stakeholders of how the testing process is going,

example:

number of test case passed
number of test cases failed
number of test cases not tested
total number of test cases so far

percentages for passed, failed, not tested
