A 1 Km wire is connected between N poles. if 1 pole is removed the distance between the pole increases by 2/3 of the original distance. How many poles are there?

3.5 Poles are coming.my answer is correct but practically 3.5 poles are not possible.

SIMPLE.....

Step 1: Space between the two poles originally = 1000/(N-1) (If there are N poles there are N-1 Spaces)

Step 2: One pole is removed. So the no of poles is N-1 and no of spaces is N-2. It has been said that space reduces 2/3rd.  

There fore we get 

1000/(N-1) =(2/3)1000/(N-2)

(N-2)/(N-1)=2/3

3N-6=2N-2

N=4
