Testing is a continuous process and it starts as and when the requirements for the project /product begins to be framed. 
Requirements phase: testing is done to check whether the project/product details are refelecting clients ideas or giving an idea of complete project from the clients perspective (as he wished to be) or not.

testing starts from the intial phase itself, in the form of monitoring, conducting reviews, meetings, walkthroughs. 
But conventional starts only after the coding was finished.

Hi all,

Testing inclues verification and validation. verification means reviewing the requirements document, test design phase. Validation start test execution phase (in terms of tester,  Because,  white box testing is also comes under validation). So ultimately testing process starts from the beginning of the project.

The answer to this question depends on many things.  What SDLC is being employed?  Are you referring to static or dynamic testing?  How much time and resources will be applied to functional testing? 

Generally, quality assurance should begin as early in the SDLC as possible.  This could occur while requirements are being framed or shortly after developers have created their initial modules of code. 

Some may say that functional testing begins when the product is compiled and released to the test team with build notes, but I believe it starts when testers begin reviewing requirements in order to produce test cases.

testing starts when all requirements are gathered,resources are available to test , system is built ,tools are available if any automation is to be done
