Which is betterway of accessing data SELECT or LDB?

I guess ..it depends on the volume of data . If the data can be obtained with a  single select statement , then it should be used. But if the data required comes from various tables and if the user is not aware of the foreign key relationships between all of them.. then thats when a LDB can be used.
