We have a testing assignment that is time-driven. Do you think automated tests are the best solution?

If I interpret this question correctly, the company has not developed automated tests and the test team is under time constraints to complete their testing.  If my interpretation is correct, then I would defer automated testing and conduct manual testing instead.  When the time, budget, and project allows, then we would pursue an automated alternative.
