Define Verification and Validation. Explain the differences between the two.

Verification - Evaluation done at the end of a phase to determine that requirements are established during the previou phase have been met. Generally Verificationrefers to the overall s/w evaluation activity, including reviewing, inspecting, checking and auditing. 
Validation :- Th eprocess of evaluating s/w at the end of the development process to ensure compliance with requirements. Validation typically involves actual testing and takes place after verification is complete.

Verification and validation are related to the back-end testing.

Verification is making sure that the data entered is stored in appropriate field

whereas

Validation is making sure the parameters of the data stored in the field are as per the requirements.

For example making sure the telephone number is stored in the asssigned field of the backend is verification whereas making sure the field only accepts data tye as numerics and allows only numbers of 10 digits is validation.
