/var/cron/log will indicate  you about the cron job completion.  Just look for the PID which initiated the cron job and the closure of that PID indicates you that the cron job has been executed and completed

1. Install the sendmail recent package..2. in /etc/mail/sendmail.cf file configure for localhost,mail server and domain name.3. Restart the sendmail service...that's it .. getback to me if having any more doubt.
