In the case of static call the mainprogram and subpgms r loaded into the mainmemory initially.in the case of dynamic call only the mainpgm is loaded first and the subpgm is loaded only when a call to it is made.so the memory utilization is good in dynamic call.

Static and dynamic will be decided only on compiler if NODYNAM - it is static, if DYNUM then dynamic.

An external sort is not COBOL; it is performed through JCL and PGM=SORT. It is understandable without any code reference. An internal sort can use two different syntaxes: 1.) USING, GIVING sorts are comparable to external sorts with no extra file processing; 2) INPUT PROCEDURE, OUTPUT PROCEDURE sorts allow for data manipulation before and/or after the sort.

External sort feature is usually used for LARGE volume of data.

In Cobol there are 4 divisions.

1. Identification division or ID division
In this no setions are there. It has 5 paragraphs.
a. Progaram-id. programname
b. Author
c. Writen-date
d. Compiled-date
e. Installer

2. Environment Division
Under this there are two sub-sections
a. Configuration-section.
     Source compter.
     Object computer.
b. Input-Output section.
     File control.
     IO control.

3. Data Division
File-section.
Working-storage section.
Linkage section.
Report section.
Screen section.

4. Procedure Division

There is another section in Data division; named as LOCAL-STORAGE SECTION.

For a recursive cobol program, you need to use that section to hold the current values of each variable while the program run.

Yes...You can define redefines clause at all levels except 66 and 88 in working-storage section....where as in file section we cant redefine at 01 level..other than this you can...and you cant redefine at occurs clause level...

Dear Friends,

This is regarding COBOL comp.

PIC X(3) occupy the 3 bytes... but PIC 9(3)V9(7) COMP occupied how much bytes?

I said in interview that 10/2 = 5 bytes. V is specified for decimal point.

Is that correct? But interviewer looked at me differently when I said this answer?

We can store only 9 and S not V in comp ,if we want to store decimal use comp-3 not comp

N/2 for even number and than +1. (n+1/2) for odd number.
3+7=10
10/5= 5
5+1=6
